Jorhat, August 31 (ANI): These women are all part of Urbashi self help group at Goria Salong Mising Gaon in Titabar Sub-division of Jorhat. The group was started by 10 women in year 2002 with an initial investment of Rs. 2000 into piggery. With loans from bank and some financial assistance from the government, the group has expanded their venture and is now mainly engaged in piggery and weaving. Most of the women work from their homes and produce a variety of mekhala chador, shawls, and gamochas. Inspired by Urbashi self help group, many other women of the village have formed such groups. At present there are 11 SHGs in the Melamati area. Urbashi Self Help Group is one of the many SHGs from Titabor sub-division that recently received Rs. 15000 each from the Assam Government as a onetime financial assistance. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi distributed kind and cash to rural farmers, self-help groups, and village organizations with an aim to assist unemployed people in generating income as a part of the state government's schemes
