New Delhi, Sep 30 (ANI): Indian government has launched its green highways policy that would make it mandatory for road developers to set aside one percent of the total project cost for plantation to reduce air pollution and beautification. The policy is aimed at employment generation and greening of highway corridors with participation of the community, farmers, private sector and non-government organisations (NGOs). Union Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister, Nitin Gadkari, said the government would collect one percent of the total cost. Gadkari also promised to introduce electric bikes, scooters and buses in Indian market within two years.
