Belgaum, Oct 29 (ANI): The investigation into the assassination of leftist scholar M M Kalburgi has taken a curious turn with the discovery of a dead body that resembles the suspected killer. The Belgaum police stumbled upon the bullet ridden body of a man at a desolate spot in the Khanapur taluk of the district and gave him a burial a few days later when nobody turned up to lay claim. Later the police, as per the protocol, released images of the dead man in an attempt to find his family. Few local activists then noticed that the dead man bears a striking resemblance to the sketch of the suspect in the Kalburgi murder that was released by the police. Police sources in Belgaum said that the unidentified man was shot dead using a country made pistol. They said he was shot from close range and there were no signs of struggle. However, Belgaum Superintendent of Police Ravikante Gowda dismissed these reports. A CID team from Bengaluru has reached Khanapur and is investigating the whole matter.
