Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu), June 16 (ANI): Fishermen in Rameswaram on Thursday ventured into the sea after two months even as the government extended the annual fishing ban period by 16 days. The ban is imposed every year from mid-April to May-end to safeguard fishes during their breeding season and also to conserve the stock. Fishermen resumed fishing activities in the coastal city with many borrowing money to fetch a good catch. Various communities of fishermen have in recent times, staged protests across India against the government's 45-day ban with the annual ban eating into their earnings. The ban causes severe difficulties for the fishermen community, which has to manage on a meagre income during the period of inactivity.
