Ahmedabad, July 03 (ANI): Lakhs of devotees hailing from different religious communities joined this 15 kms long journey that started from the 400-year-old Jagannath temple of Jamalpur area, just to have a glimpse of the deity. Amidst tight security, the chariots of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balbhadra and sister Subhadra, passed through the area of Kalupur, Shahpur and Dariapur. All three divine idols were carried in beautifully decorated wooden chariots that were followed by a great number of enthusiastic devotees belonging to different religious faiths thus creating a complete scene of communal harmony. Another interesting thing was that the festival was held during the time of Ramadan when Muslim community keeps fast but it didn't deter them to participate in the Rath Yatra. As the procession commenced through the city, devotees took part in several activities such as body piercing so as to show their devotion towards the Lord. During this annual festival which is celebrated on “Ashad Shukla Dwitiya”, one gets to experience a unique environment of love and brotherhood. Thus, the Rath Yatra of Ahmedabad is one of the colorful religious events that besides highlighting the age-old tradition of India also plays a great role in bringing different communities together at one single platform.
