Morigaon (Assam), Aug 19 (ANI): Monsoon floods in Assam have submerged 80 percent of a wildlife sanctuary, one of the most dense habitat of one-horned rhinos in the world, said senior forest department officials. Heavy rains since last few weeks have triggered floods like situation in the state and affected thousands of people. The officials said that 18 camps out of the total 22 at the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, home to one-horned rhinoceros and wild buffaloes, were inundated by floodwater. They further said efforts were underway to help the rhinos and other wildlife put in danger due to the flooding. Several villages in Assam have submerged due to heavy floods, resulting in vast loss of lives and destruction of property.
